One of the core members of F. Castelo Branco & Associados’ real estate team, and its former Senior Partner, Victor Marques da Cruz, has set up his own law firm, MC&A.

MC&A focuses on the Portuguese-speaking markets from its headquarters in Lisbon.  The firm also has an extended network of associations in Oporto, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and across Africa including, among others, Angola, Mozambique and South Africa. MC&A currently advises, among others, Portuguese investment group Sonangil in setting up in Mozambique.
The firm also forms part of international firm SNR Denton’s network, a position that was previously occupied by FCB&A, giving it access to an international network of law firms. In addition, it forms part of FLI NET™, the global network of 50 independent, national law firms.
This move follows the recent trend of break-offs from larger firms, including PLMJ’s former Head of Tax setting up Rogério Fernandes Ferreira & Associados. Whether there are more such moves to come, remains to be seen.
